Maths manipulatives

Interactive versions of the maths resources you use every day, big and clear for the whiteboard. Open one on its own or add it to your classroom board next to your timer.

Number

Number bonds (part-whole model)

Number bonds with the part-whole (cherry) model or a bar model, in two or three parts. Change the whole or a part and the last part works itself out. Dots for wholes up to 20, a list of every bond, and any number can be hidden behind a question mark.

Interactive number line

An interactive number line for any range: 0 to 10, 0 to 100 in tens, negative numbers or decimals. Click to draw jumps between numbers and place dots, and hide the numbers to use it as a blank number line.

Place value chart

A place value chart with place value counters. Drag a counter into another column and the number changes; click a counter to exchange it for ten of the next column, and group ten into one. Use numbered or plain counters, up to millions, with tenths, hundredths and thousandths.

Decimal place value grid

A decimal place value grid from thousands to thousandths with a fixed decimal point. Set each digit, read the number in figures and words, and multiply or divide by 10, 100 or 1000 to watch the digits slide across the columns.

Dienes blocks (base 10)

Virtual Dienes blocks (base 10): ones, tens, hundreds and thousands on a place value mat. Click a block to exchange it for ten smaller ones, and group ten together.

Two-sided counters

Two-sided red and yellow counters to drag, flip and shake, on their own or on a ten frame or two ten frames. Shows how many of each colour, which can be hidden.

Rekenrek (bead frame)

An interactive rekenrek (bead frame) with 10, 20 or 100 beads in groups of five. Click a bead to slide it, and the ones next to it, across.

Interactive hundred square

An interactive hundred square, 1 to 100 or 0 to 99. Pick a colour and click or drag across squares, or colour multiples, odd, square or prime numbers in one go. Hide the numbers and reveal them as you colour.

More maths

Interactive fraction wall

An interactive fraction wall from one whole down to twelfths. Colour pieces to compare and find equivalent fractions; each row shows how much is coloured. Label pieces as fractions, decimals or percentages, and use the line to compare lengths.

Times table grid

A times table grid (multiplication square) up to 10 × 10 or 12 × 12. Pick a colour and click or drag across squares to highlight them, or click a number to colour a whole times table. Hide the answers and reveal them as you colour.

Times Table Rocket (times tables game)

A quick-fire times tables game set in space: answer as many questions as you can in 30, 60 or 90 seconds by hitting the right answer in a ring of 12 buttons, and fly the rocket up to the Moon. Choose any tables from 2× to 12×, multiplying or dividing. Keeps a best score for each set of tables and lists the facts that tripped you up.

Arithmetic questions by year group

Arithmetic questions for any year group from Year 1 to Year 6, with question types taken from the National Curriculum for that year: from number bonds and adding within 20 up to long division, fractions and percentages. Choose how many questions and which types, then answer on screen and mark them, show the answers, or print a sheet with an answer page.

Multiplication arrays

Multiplication arrays of up to 12 by 12 dots or squares, with the number sentence written alongside. Turn an array to show that 3 × 4 is the same as 4 × 3, and click between columns to split it (3 × 7 = 3 × 5 + 3 × 2).

UK money (coins and notes)

UK coins and notes to drag onto a mat and add up, with the total in pounds and pence that can be hidden. Coins are drawn in their real shapes and in proportion to each other (sizes from the Royal Mint), as simple shapes rather than copies of the real designs.

Online dice for maths games

Up to six dice with dots or numbers (1 to 6, 0 to 9 or 1 to 12) for maths games. Roll them all or click one to roll it again, and show the total, the difference or the product.

Interactive protractor and angles

An interactive protractor for measuring angles. Drag the arms to make any angle, then move and turn a see-through 180° or 360° protractor with inner and outer scales to measure it; it snaps onto the vertex. Shows the size and type of angle (acute, right, obtuse, straight, reflex), or hides it for estimating.

2D and 3D shapes

2D shapes (triangles, quadrilaterals, regular polygons, circles) with sides, vertices, right angles, lines of symmetry, parallel sides and angles shown and marked, and 3D shapes (cubes, cuboids, prisms, pyramids, cylinders, cones and spheres) to spin round, with hidden edges dashed and faces, edges and vertices listed.

Squared paper whiteboard

A whiteboard on squared paper for working out, column methods and drawing, written on with a mouse, finger or stylus. Choose squares, lines, dots or plain paper, pen colours and a rubber.

Printable maths resources

Printables to go with these tools are on the way: number lines, hundred squares, place value mats, ten frames and more. They'll appear in Resources.
